Collective challenges such as climate change and pandemics pose significant threats to sustainability. Because human behavior plays a central role in both the emergence of and responses to these challenges, psychological insights are essential for understanding how societies can effectively address them. Drawing on social and cultural psychology, this talk addresses how responses to collective challenges are shaped by contextual influences at multiple levels, from broad cultural environments to everyday information exposure. This work highlights the importance of incorporating contextual perspectives into psychological theory and interventions aimed at fostering collective action and societal sustainability.
