Addressing global issues such as climate change requires considerations of how different patterns of psychological processes vary across different socio-cultural contexts. That is, research has revealed that why individuals engage in pro-environmental actions depends on their cultural values, religiosity, and social class. We theorize that on key factor that underlies the influence of these contexts is the psychological importance of sociality. This talk will present research that directly tests the role of social needs in impacting the extent of people's tendency to act on their climate change beliefs, focusing on social isolation.
